Root Chakra Imbalance

Root chakra imbalance has a negative affect on our daily life, health and mental attitude, this is due to the aspects and energies the root chakra is associated with. The root chakra is what connects us to the earth, rules our physical bodies and desires for the basics of life; security, stability, material possessions and self worth. When it is out of balance so are these aspects in our lives. Root chakra imbalance keeps us from achieving full potential in our career, personal goals, physical pleasures of intimacy, overall health and feelings of accomplishment.

An imbalance of the root chakra can be excessive or deficient energy in these areas, sometimes a mix of both. Qualities of excessive energy manifests in forms of greed, egotism, domineering attitude, non-intimate sexual relationships, and being highly judgmental. Deficient energy manifests in low self-confidence, inability to achieve goals, self doubt, lack of sexual energy, and being easily distracted.

When the root chakra is balanced it manifests abundance, unlimited physical energy, creativity and a sense of feeling centered and grounded. Those who have a balanced root chakra enjoy the life they are living, appreciate what our physical bodies give to us and are overall healthy.

Each chakra is located at certain part of our bodies and is represented with color, sounds, senses and even foods, using these will keep your chakras open and healthy. If you are experiencing imbalance of your root chakra try a couple of these methods to bring it back to its proper balance.

  • The root chakra is located at the base of the spine or tailbone and is represented by the color red. Visualize a glowing ball of red light in that area of your body.
  • Earth is the element of the root chakra, for feeling grounded walk barefoot in the summer or wear red socks in the winter.
  • Use your body physically; exercise, dance, hike, what ever it is you enjoy doing with your body do it.
  • During meditation chant “ohm” on the musical note of C, as this note resonates with the root chakra.
  • Using your sense of smell is a wonderful way to bring back balance to your root chakra. Scents to use are patchouli, lavender, hyacinth, cinnamon, sandalwood, musk and cedar wood; burn candles, take a bubble bath, use essential oils or burn incense.
  • Wear or hold gems that energize the root chakra; ruby, garnet, red jasper, bloodstone, smoky quartz or black tourmaline work wonders.
  • Eating foods that feed the root chakra is another way to bring balance back to it. It is no wonder that root vegetables are among some of the best to include in your diet; carrots, potatoes, radishes, beets, and garlic to name a few. Protein rich foods are also great to include such as eggs, tofu, and peanut butter. When adding spices to your foods use cayenne, paprika and pepper.
